Experience: Genji-maki sponge cake|源氏巻 (Genji-maki)

Genji-maki is a sponge-cake speciality of Tsuwano, with more than a 100 years of history. There are 10 confectionaries make this anzu sweet-bean filled cake, and there is one shop, where you can make it yourself.

Experience: Sencha-tea ceremony|煎茶 (sencha)

In Tsuwano, one can participate in a Sencha tea ceremony (different from the often offered Match tea ceremony), which is held in one of the oldest houses of the old merchant district.

Experience: Washi (japanese paper) making

In the Edo period (1600-1868) the washi industry was flourishing in Tsuwano. You can make your own washi postcard and washi half-sheet paper with your own hand. It is a short 20minute break from the hot summer or cold winter stroll. Find out more, on our site:

Experience: Washi (Japanese paper) doll making

In the Edo period (1600-1868) the washi industry was flourishing in Tsuwano, and the Washi doll was a popular souvenir at the time.
Today, you can choose between “Tsuwano Dance doll” and “Princess doll”, to make on the spot, or bring the do-it-yourself set home.
